How do you achieve life long happiness ?

Before knowing the path towards achieving happiness, perhaps one has to define the meaning of happiness. Happiness can mean different things to different people. Some people associate happiness to materialistic gains (the 5 Cs - Cars, Condo, Credit card, cash and club membership) while others derive happiness through interaction and spending time with family and loved ones.

Different as the 2 definitions may be, however, there is a common link to the 2 definitions as mentioned above. That is, contention. In terms of material gains, how much is enough when it comes to achieving your target? An japanese car is better than a china made car, which in turn is overshadowed by an european one. On the other hand, you might have been so focused on your objectives and are subconsciously taking for granted the simple pleasures in life such as family dinners or even spending time with ur pet dog.

It is not easy to truly achieve happiness expecially in out competitive, result oriented society. So perhaps, the key to achieving so would have to depend on how we define happiness and the process towards attaining happiness. If one sets his or her goals too high, then sad to say, he or she will never be happy.

I agree with what you have said about happiness that is linked to contentment.
If one is contended with what they have, their life will be much happier than those who are not sastified with what they have. =)

yep, i agree with you that, we should define what is happiness before we say how to achieve it

different people have different ideas. happiness is such a personal thing that only belongs to you, no one else can judge it for you

I agree with you too. Happiness means different to different people. We must know what is important for us.

yup...different people indeed have different definition for happiness. Some people are constantly pursuing more items than what they really need. This sometimes causes them to take certain things for granted. I feel that being contented with what we have is important in attaining happiness. Be happy and live your life to the fullest.=)

Your entry gives me some thought about the meaning of happiness. Once happiness is associated with material gains, it is usually conspued. However, I admire those people with wealth but still stick to the true happiness. The reason is that when they are seeking after material gains, they exprience more and understand more about the meaning of life. So many people lose themselves in wealth, those who can obtain both wealth and true happiness are really outstanding and deserve our respect.

nice post. Actually its very hard to find someone to be content about current state due to the competitive environment we are living now. Hence, most of the time people do not cherish what they already have and strive for unrealistic goals. If only they can slow down and see their surrounding, life definitely be more fulfilling and happy.
